Radio: The radio is a powerful means of
advertising, because it covers a wide area. Even in villages where there is no
electricity, people can use batteries to operate their radio sets. Radio helps
the manufacturer to reach people in both urban and rural areas, thereby,
creating a wide market for product distribution.
Television: Before 1959, television was not a
popular medium of advertising in Nigeria, in fact, in Africa. With the
establishment of western Nigeria Ibadan, Television has become an important
medium of advertising.
Billboards: The development of road networks and
urban centers in Nigeria and the increase in the number of educated people have
led to the use of billboards. They are usually found along major roads. Billboards
could carry such messages as “don’t drink when you drive” or “welcome to
Kaduna”, The Home of Peugeot”.
Newspapers: Perhaps the most popular and
cheapest means of advertisement is Newspaper. In fact, the newspaper is one of
the oldest medium of advertising in Nigeria. as far back as 1926, the Daily
Times of Nigeria started placing advertisement for various organizations.
Magazines/Journals: These are important media for
advertisement unlike the newspaper which is a circulated dais.
Magazines/journals are periodical which appeals to group of people.
Leaflets and posters:
Some advertisers may use leaflets and posters leaflets and posters to
advertise their products. These leaflets and posters are usually circulated or
pasted at cinema houses or noted accommodations. Such advertisement for a Hotel
for instance provides useful information’s concerning the hotels, in terms of
meals, accommodations and other features which makes the hotel better than
others in its class. They are usually distributed from house to house.
Sale Vans: Many companies use sales vans as a
means of advertisement. These vans are usually fitted with loud speakers which
are used by sales men to provide information about a product to prospective
buyers.
Car Stickers: Many public and private
organizations use car stickers on commercial and private vehicles to advertise
their products and services. To create awareness. Churches use car stickers to
create awareness and promote morality.
Advertising Jingle: A jingle is information packaged to
enlighten a given audience within a limited time and can take 30 seconds.
